Julia Gabriel Initial Certificate – Child Learning & Development

Join us for a programme which focuses on child development and early learning to help adults to better understand children. Conducted by senior early childhood educators from Julia Gabriel Centre and Julia Gabriel Preschool, the course teaches participants about the physical, cognitive, linguistic, social and emotional development of children from birth through to the age of eight. Participants develop awareness and sensitivity to children’s needs, learn what to expect from children as they grow, and discover how to create a warm and secure learning environment while helping children reach their full potential.

Programme Structure

Participants who complete both modules and the necessary assignments will receive the Julia Gabriel Initial Certificate
in Child Learning & Development. (The two modules do not necessarily need to be taken during the same intake.)

Course Content

Holistic development of young children
Understanding milestones and developmental stages (prenatal to age eight)
Linking theory and practices
Red flags – an introduction to developmental concerns
Observation and interpretation skills
Exploring multiple intelligences and learning styles
Effective communication for interaction and managing behaviour
Exploring play, scaffolding and learning for planning activities

The Julia Gabriel Initial Certificate (Child Learning & Development) is a bridging course available to those who wish to take the Julia Gabriel Foundation Teaching Certificate (Speech & Drama) programme but who do not hold existing qualifications in education, child development or other related fields. Julia Gabriel Introductory Certificate in Child Learning & Development is also open to anyone with an interest in how young children develop and may wish to expand their knowledge of how young children learn.
