This workshop is the final module (Module D) of the Julia Gabriel Foundation Teaching Certificate (Speech & Drama) programme. Participants must complete Module A, Module B and Module C in order to take Module D. They can either take the other modules in previous intakes before moving on to Module D, or study some or all of Modules A – C during the same intake as Module D.
During a 10-week attachment to a Speech & Drama class at Julia Gabriel Centre, each participant will gain hands-on experience of working with children somewhere between the ages of three to nine years old.
Every participant will be assigned a different attachment class. Usually this is on a Saturday or Sunday, as this is when most of Julia Gabriel Centre’s Speech & Drama classes take place, although a small number of weekday afternoon classes are also available. There is also a 15-minute mentoring meeting with the teacher each week. Participants will write up their attachment class experiences and learning in a journal which they will submit at the end of the course.
Participants also take part in 10 evening workshop sessions in which they will further explore their ability to speak and use the voice expressively, enhance their oral presentation skills and develop their subject knowledge of speech and drama teaching, leading up to some final practical presentations.
